Reorient is a magazine that spotlights AAPI artists.

EDITORIAL, BRANDING

BRIEF

Design editorial spreads for an article on painter Tammy Nguyen (originally from the New York Times). Then, concept and brand a magazine for it to live in.

MY SOLUTION

Reorient celebrates Asian-American artists– implying both forward progress and reclamation of "oriental" art in the Western world.

I chose to use an arrow built of many different squares to represent Reorient: progress made by many pieces coming together. The arrow illustrates concepts relevant to the diaspora– moving forward, rising, or looking back into history.

For the editorial piece, I was intrigued by the layered nature of Tammy Nguyen's work in physical and conceptual terms. I layered thin script type over bold letters, as her work often features thin lines layered over thicker, bolder areas of color.
