St. Ann's Warehouse is a theater with history.
POSTER SERIES
BRIEF
Design a series of posters for St. Ann’s Warehouse, a theater located in a repurposed DUMBO warehouse.
MY SOLUTION
St. Ann’s Warehouse is an institution with a long history, and its iconic building has one primary characteristic: the brick arch. I used this archway as the primary visual device of the system– not only as a representation of the physical building but also to convey the feeling of stepping through a portal into the world of a performance.
Theater posters are often (but not always) content-heavy, so I knew I needed a flexible typographic system with many levels of hierarchy. I drew inspiration from the type hierarchy of 80s rock posters (St. Ann’s got its start as a rock venue) and combined it with the arch system I had already established.
